John Hinchman sold John Bowne (1627-1695) a four-acre lot formerly granted to Thomas Wilkinson by the town of Flushing. The land was bounded on the south by property of Bowne's father, Thomas Bowne (1595-1677), on the west by "the highway," and to the east and north by Bowne's own lands. |

This deed was written and witnessed by James Clement, Flushing Town Clerk, who originally arrived in Flushing as John Bowne's indentured servant in 1663 and then assumed the office after finishing his six-year contract. |
